CEO Update | May ’22

Our women have now played 11 games and with a young list, we have 2 wins. Early season injuries to our key players and leaders together with the first 7 games away have not helped our young list however with 3 home games to go we hope to see more of the Borough faithful down supporting the team as we build for the future. Keep an eye out for a couple of social events for our women’s program in the coming weeks.

After a well-contested game against Richmond this weekend our men’s program are 1 and 5 with a couple of close games so far and continual improvement each week. With 2 of our 3 interstate games out of the way, you’ll all be able to see a lot more of the group each week and the players look forward to seeing you all at the games and chatting with you post each home game in the Sandridge Events Centre.

Our membership numbers see us at the same numbers as previous years 850 paid, plus sponsor, partner, life member, and past player and officials see us over the 1,000 mark.  We continue to look at ways to entice new members and local residents into the club. This is important as we need to continue to grow to survive.

We acknowledge it was a slow and annoying process with the changes and implementation of the digital and physical cards and thank you all for your patience. We have a database now that is better than we have ever had and as some of you know there were many errors in the previous poorly managed info.

Ticketing on match day is another opportunity for us to gather more information about the people who attend our games. For our members, sponsors, and supporters the best way to attend is with your digital cards or pre-purchased tickets  – it removes delays and gets you into the ground quicker. Members have started to collect their physical cards from either the Merch Booth on training nights or the Ticket Booth on match day.

Frustration continued with the ongoing Telstra issue which was resolved today. Our new phone numbers are as follows…

Port Melbourne Football Club – (03) 9645 6957

Sandridge Event Centre – (03) 9646 1768

Both of which will have an answering service for when the office is unattended

As always, we continue to welcome any feedback so please reach out via our membership email or directly during the week. Thanks to those of you who came and had a chat with me last weekend – if we don’t get the feedback and if we can’t chat about it, we can’t look to enhance or improve. As I said to a few of you it’s easy to have a crack on social media, and not do anything to help – but it’s better to come and chat and work together to make a difference. We are all passionate and want the best for the club as we continue to evolve and improve how we do things.

Once again, I remind you all that our club website, Facebook, and Insta pages plus emails and videos are where we provide our club information — info you see on supporter sites is not always supplied by the club and thus may not be correct or club messaging. This is a good opportunity to announce we have also launched our new website this week so check it out there are a couple of areas that need to be finalised however like our socials it is a vast improvement on what we have had previously.

Over the last month and again this week, we have called out for some volunteer positions and hopefully, a few of you will put your hands up to assist on match day activities.

Sponsorship wise, we are very lucky that the majority of our sponsors have stayed on board this year and we thank them for their fantastic support and commitment to helping the club to strive to be the best we can be. It’s great to have all games live streamed and our VFL match v Essendon live on Channel 7, which helps provide sponsors’ logos with great airtime across those channels. We are always looking for new partners to come on board so if you know anyone, please let me know or get them in touch with me.

As we receive confirmation of the next few rounds, keep an eye out over the coming weeks for announcements of key dates and functions that are coming up and make sure you get in early for your tickets.

The lighting project is all on track to have the towers operational for our VFLW twilight game on May 28th v Darebin. We look forward to hosting some VFL night games from June onwards with our first to be against Werribee on June 24th at 7:05pm.

Hope to see you all at ETU stadium this weekend to watch our VFLW team against Casey on Sunday at 2pm.

Until my next update Go Borough!

– CEO, Paul Malcolm
