Former Sydney Swans ruckman, Sam Naismith has signed with Port Melbourne for the 2023 VFL season.

The 206cm, 30-year-old has played 30 AFL games for the Swans, with a stand-out year in 2017 playing 15 games.

Naismith tallied up 419 hit outs in 2017, as well as an impressive 40 tackles. An average of 28 hit outs in 2017, which saw an improvement from 2016 with an average of 23 over 12 games.

Naismith is currently sitting on 49 State League matches and proves to be a damaging ruck with 9 years of experience in the AFL system.

“Sam trained with us earlier in the pre-season and you could tell straight away it was going to be a good fit for both,” says Football Manager, Glenn Balmforth.

“He is a quality player and person who will have a huge impact on our midfield. He will also bring a wealth of knowledge from his 9 years in the AFL system and in particular a quality environment at the Sydney Swans that will be valuable for our group.”

Our aim is to build a strong foundation that is both professional and sustainable and sets Port Melbourne Football Club up as a destination club for female and male footballers, coaches, staff and volunteers.
