BOROUGH ANNOUNCE 2025 LIFE MEMBER RECIPIENTS

Port Melbourne Football Club has announced three worthy Life Membership recipients at the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Glenn Robertson, Keith Murphy & Steve Long all received recognition for their respective contributions to the club over a number of years and were on hand to accept the honour.

“I am overwelled with emotion.  You don’t get involved with places like this for any sort of recognition, you do it because you love it so to be awarded a Life Membership is an honour and I am thrilled” commented Robertson.

“It is a great club and we all just do what we can to ensure it remains that way.  I certainly wasn’t expecting this but am very grateful” added Long.

“It is an honour.  The club has been a big part of my life, and I enjoyed being able to contribute where I could and receiving a Life Membership is just wonderful” said Murphy.

Life Membership is awarded each year at the AGM with members able to nominate candidates and the Board of Directors making the final decision.

Glenn Robertson joined the club as a player in 1982 and went on to play 64 games including a premiership in his first year.  He was also a regular feature in the VFA State team.  Glenn was awarded the Best & Fairest in 1983 and was made Captain in 1985.  Off the football field Glenn has been on the Past Players & Officials Committee since 1999, was General in 2018/2019 and is also a sponsor of the Past Players & Officials annual luncheon.

Keith Murphy has given 18 years of volunteer service to the club dating back from the mid-70s through to 2006.  Keith has been a runner for the 3rds, a team manager at both reserves and senior level and also volunteered on match days as a gate attendant.

Steve Long has been a strong advocate for the club for over 10 years.  He has been instrumental in helping bring new sponsors to the club, driving fundraising initiatives, assisting with facility maintenance and upgrades as well as bringing new business to the Sandridge Events Centre.

“Having people like Glenn, Keith & Steve as part of our club is invaluable and it is what makes this club the place that it is” commented PMFC President Michael Shulman.
