PORT MELBOURNE announces new general manager

The Port Melbourne Football Club Board is delighted to announce that after an extensive search, Sophie Williams has been appointed as the new General Manager, commencing on 23 October 2023. Sophie has significant commercial and club experience, including major roles held at the AFL in a Head of Operations and Head of Community Football capacity, Puma Australia (Head of Retail) and more recently as CEO of the Melbourne Tigers amongst a range of other key commercial appointments.

Sophie’s extensive achievements have included development and execution of the AFL Gather round earlier this year, closer integration of elite and community football and evolution of the AFLW brand.

Her experience, commercial and football connections and ‘can do’ attitude will be invaluable to the ongoing growth and professional development at the Club. Sophie will also be key to driving our new strategic plan through to 2026.

In addition to this significant appointment, we are also very excited to announce the addition to our team of Amanda McConaghy as our Membership, Marketing & Events Manager. Amanda brings to the table a wealth of club experience including key roles held at Queensland Rugby Union, the ISAF Sailing World Championships and Rugby WA.

Her areas of focus will be ensuring that our membership relationships are nurtured, matchday experience enhanced, expanding connections with our sponsor and business partners and ensuring that our Club remains one of the strongest football brands in Australia.

We are thrilled to welcome Sophie and Amanda to the Borough and look forward to a big season in 2024 as we embark on our 150th anniversary…..be sure to watch this space!
