REPORT: Borough Back on the Winners List

Port Melbourne have bounced back from two successive home defeats to overcome Frankston by 47 points at SkyBus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Borough were never headed all day, though they did have to dig deep in the last quarter to eventually pull away from the plucky Dolphins.

An almighty rev-up from Gary Ayres at the half time break would be a catalyst for Port to gradually increase their buffer during the second half.

Perennially competitive on their home deck, Frankston refused to buckle and actually had the advantage of a slight breeze as they entered the final quarter facing a 25-point deficit.

As it were, four last-quarter goals to skipper Jordan Lisle (for a game tally of six, pictured – left) and a total of five across the afternoon to fellow forward Dylan Conway (pictured – right) would prove to be sufficient Borough nerve-settlers.

The load was shared more evenly elsewhere, as the likes of Shannen Lange (28 possessions and 7 tackles), Tom O’Sullivan (25 possessions and 7 tackles), Mitch Wooffindin (25 possessions) and the in-form Isaac Conway (12 tackles) all played some good footy through the middle.

Dylan Van Unen, Luke Tynan and Lucas Cook were also typically solid contributors in defence.

The win takes the Borough’s record to 5 wins and 3 losses, and, for now, keeps them entrenched inside the top 8 with another standalone clash with Werribee to come this Saturday at the new-look Avalon Airport Oval.

Action will get underway at 3:00pm.
