REPORT: Borough Women Defeated by Second-Placed Tigers

Our Port Melbourne Borough women tried hard all match against a strong Seaford Tigers who thrashed them by 60 points at the Belvedere Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

It was a high-pressured opening term that our women played well in. The Tigers were up by 19 points over our women.

Our women continued to give it their all in a hard fought first half of football. The Tigers kept our women scoreless for the entire first half. At the main break our women were down by 36 points.

The third stanza was a quarter where our women really stepped up especially in the backline and played some good football against a strong opposition. They only allowed the Tigers to boot 10 points. Our women gave it their all against the Tigers and were unfortunate to not score a goal in the third quarter due to their effort in the forward half. At three quarter time the Tigers had an advantage of 46 points on the scoreboard over our women.

It was a tough match all around for our women, but a highlight of the last stanza was the goal that Elisheva Oliver kicked just before the siren sounded for the end of the match. Oliver’s goal celebration was one of jubilation, as she just lay on the ground and it was funny to see. Our women lost by a huge 60 points against the second placed Tigers.

A positive for our women was they kept the Tigers to four goals for the entire second half after a first half where the opposition was all over them. They kept on improving each quarter in the match. If our women continue to play the way they did towards the end of the third quarter and fourth quarter they will soon notch up their first win.

Our women will be back in action in round 6 at the North Port Oval on Saturday 16th of June.
