REPORT: The Wait is Over….Borough Women Notch up Historic First Win

Our Port Melbourne Borough women made history at the JL Murphy Reserve in front of the Borough faithful at their home away from home. They ran out 25 points victors over Chirnside Park.

The first stanza was a tight and tough contest to begin proceedings. It was a quarter where both teams gave it their all in a fine display of contested pressure. Bronte James scored our first goal of the match and Chirnside booted two goals. At quarter time Chirnside were up by four points over our women.

Our women came out all guns blazing in the second quarter, as they kicked two goals and kept Chirnside scoreless. Nayley Borg slotted through two goals in a great display up forward. Borg played well and was a lively target up forward for her teammates. At the main break our women had a nine-point advantage over Chirnside.

In the third term our women continued their dominance and control in the match. They scored three goals to Chirnside’s two goals. Our women did not allow Chirnside back into the match and it was a great display of pressure all over the ground. Mandy Seath was a superb leading forward target in the third, as she put through two great goals. At three quarter time our women were up by 15 points over Chirnside.

Our women continued to play all over Chirnside in the final quarter, as they outscored Chirnside two goals to one goal. Marina Skinner played extremely well in the fourth term. Skinner kicked two beautiful goals on the run and you could hear the cheer and delight from the Borough team bench who were so happy to notch up win number one on the board. Our women ran out 25 points victors and secured their first win in the women’s team history for their beloved Port Melbourne Borough.

The scenes after the match were of elation and delight from our women and the Borough fans. Everyone at the ground were so happy to be there to witness a history defining moment in the Port Melbourne Football Club’s already rich history.

Our women will be back in action in round 7 at the North Port Oval on Saturday 23rd of June.
