PRESS RELEASE
The 2025 VFL season is here and the Borough has named a strong line up ahead of their first game against Brisbane on Saturday.
“It’s the first game of the year against an opponent we don’t know a heap about, and nor do they know a lot about us. You can watch vision, but it doesn’t really give you a full picture. Playing them in a game a couple of times you get to know another club’s strengths and deficiencies, but this is a unique opportunity with 12 new players in the team to see how they go” commented Senior Coach Brendan McCartney.
There has been strong recruitment in the off-season with McCartney and newly appointed Director of Coaching James Hird bringing together a strong squad in a season that sees a new era at the Borough.
“We have players that are new to the club, some are young people just embarking their senior careers, and some are really seasoned players such as Dyson Heppell who have been around for a long time. It’s an opportunity for us to continue developing and try things we’ve been working on. We’ll remain open to change and tweaking things as the game necessitates” added McCartney.
Expectations are high for the season ahead with the squad having been put through an intense pre-season program.
McCartney said of the team’s preparation “We’ve had a really good summer of training: a lot of strong conditioning, a lot of fight in our training, and a lot of competitiveness. I expect we’ll endure the game pretty well and make sure that we’re switched on and set up the ground up properly and all three phases of our game, contest, offence and defence, are in good shape.”
The team will fly to Brisbane on Friday ahead of their game at Brighton Homes Arena in Brisbane on Saturday at 12:05pm (AEDT). You can watch the game via the live stream at VFL/VFLW Fixtures and Streaming – AFL.com.au.
