Port Melbourne Football Club announces key additions to the 2025 VFL coaching staff.
Port Melbourne Football Club is excited to welcome former Carlton FC captain and 300 game player Marc Murphy alongside Essendon FC premiership ruckman Steven Alessio who played 184 games in the red and black to the PMFC coaching staff for season 2025.
Marc Murphy will play a key role in stoppages and running patterns through the midfield, collaborating with all players at training and match day. Steve Alessio will be instrumental in developing the ruckmen and tall forwards during the week.
“I met with Macca and Hirdy last year and they mentioned a position within the coaching staff at Port focusing on stoppages and the midfield. I was keen to get involved. I am excited to be working alongside a strong coaching team, to share my knowledge with the players and getting stuck in,” Marc Murphy stated.
Senior Coach Brendan McCartney, added, “Marc Murphy is not long out of the game. Late in his playing career he was heavily involved in stoppage planning and coaching with Carlton. Steve Alessio is an experienced coach in his own right, he has already made a significant impact in the short time he has been at the Borough.”
The combined knowledge, understanding and experience of Marc and Steve will add valuable depth to the Port Melbourne FC VFL coaching group.
