Collingwood claimed the minor premiership by finishing the home-and-away season in first spot on the ladder and advanced to the 2023 rebel VFLW Grand Final by defeating Port Melbourne in the qualifying final and Essendon in the second semi final.

Port Melbourne finished the regular season in second position and took the longer route to the premiership decider following its defeat to the Magpies in the opening week of the finals.

The Borough secured their first rebel VFLW finals victory with a one-point triumph over Carlton in the first semi final, before defeating reigning premier Essendon by 30 points in the preliminary final.

Collingwood last won the rebel VFLW flag in 2019, having also reached the Grand Final in 2021 before the season was abandoned. Port Melbourne will be making its first rebel VFLW Grand Final appearance.

AFL Head of State League Competitions Jennie Loughnan said she was looking forward to capping off a great season with the 2023 rebel VFLW Grand Final at ETU Stadium.

“We have experienced a truly outstanding rebel VFLW season and it is fitting the top two teams on the ladder from the home-and-away season will feature in the biggest game of the year,” Loughnan said.

“As the state’s premier women’s football league, the rebel VFLW competition has showcased the state’s best football talent throughout the season and this will be highlighted on Sunday in the 2023 rebel VFLW Grand Final.

“Both Collingwood and Port Melbourne are deserving grand finalists. Making it through to the premiership decider is a great achievement and one I’m sure the clubs and their supporters are very proud of.

“On behalf of the AFL, I would like to thank all clubs, players, umpires, venues and our broadcast and commercial partners for their tremendous support of the rebel VFLW in 2023 and wish Collingwood and Port Melbourne the best of luck for the Grand Final.

rebel has again been a proud supporter of the VFLW in 2023, bringing together an iconic Australian brand and leading sports retailer with the premier women’s community football league in Victoria.

rebel GM eCommerce & Marketing Rosemary Martin said: “rebel is truly the ‘Home of Football’ in Australia. With over 159 stores nationally, rebel has a deep connection with communities all over Australia, which extends into every level of football.

“rebel is proud to be the naming rights partner of the rebel VFLW competition and we wish both Collingwood and Port Melbourne the best of luck in their pursuit of the premiership”.
