2021 SIGNING: Kat Smith Joins the Borough’s VFLW Finals Charge

Port Melbourne have added some firepower to their undefeated VFLW squad with the official signing of Kat Smith from the GWS Giants AFLW side.

Formerly from Blackburn/Eastern Devils, Smith is a former captain of the Vic Metro Youth Girls in 2016 before being drafted to the Melbourne Demons with pick number 56 in the 2016 AFL Women’s Draft.

Smith is a former AFLW Rising Star nominee (2017), and has gone on to chalk up 26 games at AFLW level – 21 with the Dees and 5 more recently with the Giants.

Having suffered an ACL injury during the 2020 pre-season, Smith returned this season with GWS and Port Melbourne Football Manager Glenn Balmforth said she represented a fantastic acquisition as the Borough seeks to continue its run towards a VFLW Finals campaign.

“To have someone of Kat’s calibre wanting to join the Port Melbourne Football Club and seeing us as a great fit for her football following the conclusion of the AFLW season is really pleasing,” he said.

“Her versatility, leadership and ball-reading ability will compliment the group we have got and we are really looking forward to her getting started in the red and blue.”

The Club would like to welcome Kat to the Borough, and wish her all the best for the remainder of the season.
