Port of Melbourne Announced as Borough’s Major VFLW Partner

The Port Melbourne Football Club is thrilled to confirm a new two-year partnership with the Port of Melbourne.

Port of Melbourne is Australasia’s largest maritime hub for containerised, automotive and general cargo. It is a key economic asset for businesses and people across Victoria and south-eastern Australia.

The Port of Melbourne’s Mission entails “working together with customers and the community, delivering innovative and sustainable port solutions – creating the future and building on our proud history”.

The Port of Melbourne will be the Major Partner for the Borough’s VFLW program, and feature on the playing jumper for the next two seasons.

The Port of Melbourne initially became involved at the Port Melbourne Football Club as a Match Day Sponsor of the Club’s Round 11 ‘Frank Johnson Heritage Day’ clash with Williamstown over the last couple of years, which will also continue to be an ongoing feature of the partnership.

The Port Melbourne Football Club was represented by CEO Paul Malcolm, VFLW Head Coach Lachie Harris (pictured above, second from right), VFLW captain Melissa Kuys (pictured above, right) and VFLW vice-captain Claire Dyett (pictured above, left) at ETU Stadium on Thursday afternoon to launch the partnership, which saw a framed commemorative jumper presented to Port of Melbourne CEO Brendan Bourke (pictured, below).

Port Melbourne CEO Paul Malcolm welcomed the partnership, saying that both organisations were strongly aligned when it came to establishing meaningful community relationships and building on a proud history.

“To partner Port of Melbourne as major sponsor of our women’s program as we kick off our inaugural VFLW season is gret timing, and we at the Borough look forward to building a long and successful partnership,” Malcolm said.

Port of Melbourne CEO Brendan Bourke said he is looking forward to a long and successful partnership with the Borough.

“We at the Port share Port Melbourne’s focus on building community connections and inclusivity through the work of its many community partners,” Bourke said.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to support the clubs entry into the VFLW.

“The growth of women’s AFL has been fantastic for the sport and our society in general and we look forward to a winning season.”

As well as serving as an important pillar in terms of the Club’s community program, the generosity of the Port of Melbourne will also contribute towards supporting the hopes and dreams of aspiring young female footballers to perform at their best while pulling on the Borough jumper in their inaugural seasons.

The Port Melbourne Football Club welcomes Port of Melbourne into the Borough community for the next two seasons, and looks forward to an exciting 2021 for everyone involved.
