VFLW Match Report – Round 10 vs. Southern Saints

The Borough girls were fired up ready to take on the Southern Saints on Saturday at 2 o’clock at the ETU Stadium.

The first bounce hits the ground, and the first quarter is underway. Four minutes into the first quarter and the Saints manage to sneak the first goal in. Not long after their first goal the southern Saints kick another one putting a 13-point lead on the Borough girls.

Saints weren’t letting the Borough girls kick a goal and they come through in the last few minutes of the quarter with the third goal of the game leaving the Borough girls with just 1 behind on the scoreboard.

Second quarter starts and Harley kicks off the quarter with a goal for the girls. Eleven minutes in and the Saints add another goal to their score. It doesn’t take long for Holly Bailey to answer the saints as she kicks the second goal for the Borough girls. Saints are continuing the fight as they manage to take the lead just before the half time siren goes.

Saints come out strong again in the third quarter kicking their sixth goal just three minutes in. They come through again with another leaving the Borough girls worried not knowing what’s in store for the rest of the game. Saints well and truly take control now as they kick their eighth goal. To ease the nerves, Bromage makes the most of a 50m penalty and kicks the Boroughs their third goal. At the end of the third quarter the end results were Borough 3.4.22 to Saints 8.4.52.

The fourth quarter starts and both teams don’t score goals, only behinds. Unfortunately, the Saints were too strong and kept us out of the game and we weren’t able to match their playing style this time. Although this is another loss for the girls, they put up a gallant effort and was a good game to watch. The girls need to regroup in preparation for their match against the undefeated Collingwood this coming week at the double header when the VFL men’s team will be playing after them.
