VFLW Match Report – Round 8 vs. Casey Demons

An early start than usual due to a double header. There was a slight breeze and it was overcast but the girls were fired up and ready to go. The Borough girls were out on the field right on 10am when the siren sounded for the start of the first quarter!

Casey Demons started out strong with the first 2 goals going to them. It didn’t take long till our hard work was paying off and Sabrina Frederick came through with 2 goals as well keeping us in the lead by 2 points when quarter time came around.

3 minutes into the second quarter and Casey took the lead again kicking the first goal of the quarter. With our backline holding strong and help from Bromage and Preshke it wasn’t long until Wilson kicked the Borough third goal making the scores level going into half time.

With the scores being level we had a chat to the coach Lachie Harris about his thoughts on how the girls were playing. “Our tackle count was very high because we were reacting. We put a lot of tackles down because we were second the ball, as simple as that”.

Third quarter was well underway when Casey snags another goal getting back out in the lead. With Casey keeping the ball down their end most of the quarter it allowed them to score another 3 goals on top of us leaving it at a 26 point lead attired 3/4 quarter time.

Fourth quarter comes around and Casey just kept kicking goals. Sabrina Frederick was able to kick one last goal in the final quarter but unfortunately the siren sounded and the end scores were Borough 28 defeated by Casey 69.

With the girls getting defeated, we were lucky enough to have chat to coach, Lachie Harris after the game to see what his thoughts were on the game. “It’s always difficult to lose but a real benefit for us to to learn what it take to play at that next level and Casey are a quality outfit so it was really good to test that opposition”.

We also got to chat with him to see who he thought were the outstanding players today. “Thought Pip Peshke was really good at the start until she went down. Sophie Locke was really good in her first game back. Sabrina with 3 goals is a really good reward for effort. Sansonetti and Clair Dyett were good at times and Kuys as well.

It was a tough game but the Borough girls should still be very proud and well done to Lachie on coaching a great team.
